Hello,

when your ancestor married, did these marriage records not mention anything about
-his origin
-his profession
-names of his parents?

If these records did mention any of the above, please provide more details.

Next, which religious belief did your ancestor have: Evangelical / Lutheran or Roman Catholic?

In case he may have been of Roman Catholic religious belief, then you'll hardly find any record in Archion's church registers because Archion only provides access to Evangelical/Lutheran church registers.

Hello, Vera!

Thank you for your answer!

When Johann Gustaf Ferchmin was married to Augusta Katharina Karell, the marriage was second for them both. As I can read the old German handwriting, there is not mentioned the parents. I hope that the picture will open.

Johann gustaf Ferchmin was Evangelical Lutheran.

At the death of J.G. was mentioned, that he was born in Haapsalu, Estonia.

But as I mentioned earlier, his birth in Haapsalu has not been found.

Johann Gustaf Ferchmin´s life, as much as is known:

- Birth about 1786-1789, parents not known for sure, place mentioned to be Haapsalu, Estonia. According to Erik Amburger Preuss. According to tradition Lützow. Or anyway he stayed in Lützow, when he attended in a duell.

- marriage to Maria Adolphine Simson from Sweden
Children of this marriage:
* Falin Ferchmin, the time or place of birth not known
* Julia Ferchmin, later de Fradel, the time or place of birth not known. Her husband is said to be count de Fradel.
* Ulrike Juliana Ferchmin, born ~1821, mentioned in the revisionslist of Tallinn 1858

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E&id=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E%219711&parId=root&o=OneUp

* Johann Philipp Ferchmin, born 18.3.1822 Maholm, Viru-Nigula

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E&id=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E%219712&parId=root&o=OneUp

- The death of Maria Adolphine Simson 31.7.1823 Poeddes, Viru-Nigula

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E&id=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E%219713&parId=root&o=OneUp

- Marriage with Augusta Katharina Karell

Children from that marriage:
* Karl Gustav Ferchmin (my grand-grandfather), born 6.2.1825 Maholm, Viru-Nigula, died ~1888 probably in Riga, Latvia

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E&id=2B6C848E6D2A8A9E%219714&parId=root&o=OneUp

* Robert Adolf Wilhelm Ferchmin, born 8.7.1827 Narva, Ida-Viru County, Estonia, died 1892 (In Revisionsbook)
* Catharina Maria Ferchmin, born ~1829 (Revisionsbook)
* Anna Dorothea Ferchmin, born ~1834 (Revisionsbook)
* August Julius Iwanowicz Ferchmin, born 7.12.1835 Tallinn, died 22.5.1905 St. Petersburg, Russia (Amburger Archiv Dokument-Id [66685]

So, here is nearly everything, what I know about Johann Gustaf Ferchmin. He has been a moving person, staying in different places.

I have looked through the churchbooks near Berlin and going on. I try to find congregations with Ferchmins, Farchmins, Verchmins, Varchmins. Then I will see them more carefully. Good job for a retired person. Trying to read old German, Estonian, Russian makes good for the brain. Anyway, quite often I have to admit, that this is hard, but interesting.

Now I hope, that the links will open.
Have a nice day, everybody!

Hello Pirjo,

thanks a lot for all of these information.

Unfortunately none of the "onedrive" links works, say it always tells:

"This item might not exist or is no longer available

This item might have been deleted, expired, or you might not have permission to view it...."

That's a real pity.

I think it was on geni.com where I noticed a marriage record (only partly visible) which tells about the groom's father, Johann Gustaf Ferchim:

a deceased captain on former Saxon duty (+ capitain in sächsischen Diensten)

Is that correct?

Hello, Vera!
Thank you for your answer!

What a pity, that the links did not work. This was for me the first time to put the picture in cloud and trying to send it in that way. I could not send the picture as "picture" here. So I had to try something else.
Learning = trying to learn new things.

I could not find in Geni anything new about JG' s father. But I try to find him in sächsischen Dienst.

Searching goes on.

Greetings, Pirjo

Hello Pirjo,

I am apparently misunderstood. I did not refer to Johann Gustav's father, but to Johann Gustav, himself.

see here:

Then open the attached picture which seems to be an excerpt from a church register or so.
Unfortunately it's not completely visible.

Greetings, Vera

Hello, Vera!

That picture in Geni was from the Riga Dom churchbooks. Marriage was 21.7.1857. I had put the photo in Geni. Because it seems to be difficult to get photos here (or I cannot do it), I put two new photos in Geni. The second one is on the other page, continuing the marriage of Karl Ferchmin and Martha Groschke.

Hi to everybody!

I have one more week payed time here. Then I will return in autumn.
I have been searching Johann Gustaf Ferchmin in Berlin-area and in Ostgebiete. Until this day I have not found his birth. But I will go on.

I will thank you everybody for help and the good links in searching him. Thank you also for the pieces of knowledge about von Varchmins! Little by little the picture gets clearer. I hope, some day it is also clear, for sure, where Johann Gustaf was born and who were his parents.

Until that day, nice genealogic finds!
