Evangelisches Archiv Baden und Württemberg

The Protestant regional churches of Baden and Württemberg have merged their archives and libraries and opened a joint archive with a new extension building in Stuttgart. Through this merger, the largest regional church archive in Germany has been created. Core holdings such as official registers, records, and church books will from now on be stored centrally in Stuttgart.

This merger affects the designation of the archives at Archion:

previously: Landeskirchliches Archiv Karlsruhe
now: Evangelisches Archiv Baden und Württemberg/Baden

previously: Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart
now: Evangelisches Archiv Baden und Württemberg/Württemberg

So please do not be surprised if the familiar archive designation is no longer visible. Apart from the change of names, nothing else in the data structure within Archion has changed – place names, deanery designations, and church books remain the same.
