Graundenz Namensverzeichnisse Taufen 1857-1886

The mothers first name on son's obit was Caroline. How exciting
There was no first name for the father listed on Otto's death certificate ( not obit as stated above)
Yes. As I wrote I started to search for a mother named Coroline. Then I stopped when I found the death of the child Maria Weiß.
His mother was Caroline NN so maybe you can find a brother or sister in Graudenz as a child of NN Weiß and his wife Karoline ...
If thee are no other Carolines who married a Weiß, Johann Weiss and his wife Wilhelmine Caroline (Golombek) should be the parents of your GGF. But I fear you cannot proof it with the existing sources.

As far as I searched the death records it seems that there must have been a book containing death records from 1867 - xx which is missing as well as the birth records containing Grünlinde. So you cannot tell if Johann and Caroline died in Grünlinde or if they (or one of them) emigrated with your GGF. Maybe you will find Caroline in Chicago - I think she died there because only she is mentioned in Otto's death certificate.

That is an interesting theory. His immigrates alone but that does not mean that she may have followed later. I have many families that did immigration on different years. Thanks for the hint.

Oh my goodness, I actually have a several DNA matches that trace back to a Julius Weiss in Graundenz. The family tree has Johann as a brother. He marries a Caroline Golumbek.. BUT that tree did NOT have Otto listed as a son, it instead had a Carl Weiss born 1865 (same year).
So I thought it can't be the right family.
Now I realize looking at the index that in 1865 that # 61 is Otto and there is a #62 that is a Carl Gustave Weiss.
Being consecutive numbers that very well could mean they are TWINS!

Please tell me what you think.

Well ... you will have to search for Carl Gustav Weiss and Carl Weiss and Gustav Weiss. He might be a twin, but you will have to prove it in some way. Are there any traces? Search if there is a confirmation as it is recorded for Otto (Friedrich) Weiss. Maybe he died in childhood -> https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6ZMV-XJV8?lang=en or (misspelled) https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6FYY-KSW8?lang=en

And do not trust existing family trees too much - they can give you hints, but you will have to check every detail and other details/persons may not be included.

Just to make it clear: What I have done is not enough! You will have to exclude other Carolines to make it more reliable that your ancestors are Johann and Caroline Weiss.

Searching in FS for babtisms in Weiss families between 1853 and 1870 in the region of Graudez with a mother called Caroline show some more Carolines. So you will also have to research these families (I believe they would give you DNA matches too - so: do not rely on DNA matches):
