Sackgasse / Bitte um Hilfe: Militär- oder sonstige Unterlagen zu Franz Hieronymus ENDELMANN/ENTELMANN (Einbeck, ca. 1750–1776)

Hello everyone,
I have traced my family line Endelmann from Bremen/Bremerhaven (late 19th to mid-20th century) back to Einbeck in the 18th century; however, I came to a dead end there with Franz Hieronymus Endelmann (also recorded as Entelman).
From the church records of Einbeck (Marien) I have compiled the following chronology:
Location: All entries originate from the parish of Einbeck-Marien in Lower Saxony.
Occupation: In the records, he is explicitly listed as a "Mousquetier" (musketeer).
Family: He was married to Catharina Dorothea (birth name Biermann or Beurmann).
Notable children: Among his children baptized in Einbeck were Frantz Diederich (1752), Georg Heinrich (1760) and Johann Georg (1767).
Death: He died in Einbeck in 1776.
I have not yet been able to find a church record of Franz and Catharina's marriage. It seems that Franz was not a native of Einbeck, but was merely stationed there – after which he settled there permanently. Does anyone have experience researching military personnel from this period? Are there any accessible documents that could provide clues about Franz Endelmann's origins? I have already searched Arcinsys, but without any significant success.
Thank you in advance for any advice, references to documents, or historical background information you can provide!
Best regards,
George

Hello George,

Birth Einbeck January 1752 - Frantz Diederich Endelmann (illegitimate)
Father: ein Soldat von dem Regiment des Herrn General Major von Borch, Herrn Major von Dincklage Companie - namens Endelmann

--> so his military service started prior to Jan 1752
--> good for "tracing"

Birth Einbeck January 1760 - Georg Heinrich Endelmann
Father: Franz Hieromimus Endelmann, ein Mousquetier

--> without any further information regarding the military unit in which he served at this time, this information is quite "useless"

Birth Einbeck July 1767 - Johann Georg Entelmann
Father: Frantz Entelmann, Mousquetier [des] [von] Zastrowschen Regiments

--> good for "tracing"
--> this regiment was already stationed in Einbeck about the time when Endelmann's first child was born.
For mentions of this regiment see also i.e. here: https://www.archion.de/p/ecdbb40f10/

In order to trace military units of the Kingdom of Hannover there's a brilliant, multiple volumes source:
Title: Geschichte der Königlich-Hannoverschen Armee
Author: Louis Heinrich Friedrich von Sichart

Digitized and online available i.e. here:

Relevant for you is at first hand (given the time constraints as indicated by the child birth's above) this volume "Geschichte der Königlich-Hannoverschen Armee. 2. Band, Dritter Zeitraum, 1705 bis 1756"

And when you search this volume for: Generalmajor Borch

One hit is on Scan page #112 / 496 -

9. I. R. [Infanterie Regiment] B 18 Regiment, General-Major von der Borch
Einbeck --- Stab und 5 Compagnien...

Go back 1 page to Scan #110 / 496 in order come to the title of this book section
§ 32
Die "Logirungs-Liste" der Infanterie im Jahre 1748

And when you search at same / identical Volume for: Dincklage

...get on Scan page #118 / 496

9. I. R. [Infanterie Regiment] B 18 Regiment von Zastrow (Oberst)
...Major von Dincklage

Go back to Scan page #112 / 496 in order to come to the title of this book section
§ 33
Verzeichnis der Stabs-Officiere und Compagnie-Chefs vom Jahre 1755 (15. Novbr.)

So in combination with the 1752 birth record you've now verified that your ancestor served in the military units of the Kingdom of Hanover.
(That is important to learn since during it's longstanding tradition as a garrison besides troops from the Kingdom of Hanover there were i.e. also Prussian troops as well as French troops present in Einbeck.)

The details regarding the military units are also really important for any further research i.e. for muster-rolls.
Such sources -like muster-rolls- provide information like:
-name of the soldier
-soldier's place of origin (which is not in each and every case the place of birth, but still provides an important lead as to where further research may start)
-when the soldier was called up / signed up for military service.

In case such muster-rolls "survived" they will very likely be found within the holdings of the Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv Hannover. (You said you are familiar with arcinsys.)

None of these lists is online available!
So you need to contact the Hanover archive in order to first learn if such lists (starting about 1752!!) still exist.
Next, these sources need to be searched manually....
Needless to say --> they charge for their services; so be sure to ask upfront!!

For contact data see i.e. here

As an aside.... "von Borch" should be:
Generalmajor Ernst August Friedrich von der Borch (1695 - 1752)
He's i.e. mentioned on this website

Name Distribution Map (1890) for Endelmann / Entelmann / Intelmann (which a spelling variation of that family name)

I may of course the totally wrong, but my "best educated guess" at this very moment would be that the place of origin regarding your "Frantz Hieronymus Endelmann" seems to be "somewhere" in the greater area between Bremen - Bremerhaven - Emden, or a bit more to the east Hamburg - Lübeck.

For reference you may also check the "Familiendatenbank Teufelsmoor" for the family names: Endelmann - Entelmann - Intelmann

OFB (Ortsfamilienbuch) Teufelsmoor

I think he only came to / ended up in Einbeck, Lower Saxony, due to joining the military / his military service.

Kind regards,
Vera

A few hints (only!) to some examples of the holdings of the Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv Hannover

No proof at all that this is the right person, but name and age are very close. Maybe it helps:

Hieronymus Frantz Entelmann, * July 18, 1721 in Groß Grönau near Lübeck
father: Frantz Heinrich Entelmann
mother: Trine Marie, né Grote

Groß Grönau was a part of the Herzogtum Lauenburg, which was reigned in personal union with the Electorate of Hannover at that time. So it would make sense if he joined the army of Hannover later.

Further investigations are certainly necessary to find out if it's "your" Entelmann.

More basic information (general overview) about "Kur-Braunschweig-Lüneburgische Regimenter" may be found here:

Of special interest may be:

[Quote / Zitat]...
*1665 (Kfsm. Braunschweig-Lüneburg) „Regiment Verkel“ – 1675 Heinrich von Hülsen, 1678 Henrich Philipp von Ohr, 1688 Carl Christian von Sommerfeldt, 1689 Adam Schotte de Veber, 1691 Philipp Christoph von Königsmarck, 1692 Karl Ludwig von Sayn-Wittgenstein, 1693 Moritz von Löwenhaupt, 1694 von Hülsen, 1705 Johann Siegfried von Coseritz, 1719 von Münchhausen, 1720 Anton Balthasar von Zastrow, 1733 David le Bachelle, 1734 August von Berward, 1738 Friedrich Wilhelm von Diepenbroick, 1742 Ernst August Friedrich von der Borch, 1752 Christian von Zastrow („Jung-Zastrow“), 1773 mit No. 9-A zusammengelegt.

.... [Ende of Quote / Zitat Ende]

From this source you also learn that the regiment "von Borch / von der Borch" changed it's name to "von Zastrow".

(Since various gentleman from the "von Zastrow" family served in the military, even within "Hanover troops" this unit -in order to clearly differentiate it- is additionally called "Jung-Zastrow" ["the young Zastrow"]
