Oldenburg Records

It is so exciting to see the Oldenburg records come online. According to the news post, there will be 18 more parishes in 2019. Does anyone know which ones? Excited to finally have access to these records which a major part of my family tree! :)

Nice link to a comprehensive listing of parish records. Thank you.

Specifically, I am wanting to see Hohenkirchen, Tettens, Waddewarden and Middoge. Do you know if they are in process of digitizing?

Thank you, Jane

No idea. I was waiting for the records from Holle and Wardenburg, and got disappointed as well. Hopefully next year.

Dear Jane,

When comparing the abovementioned list with the numbers from the newsletter, one gets the following results:

The list contains 87 parishes whereas the newsletter states that a total of 82 parishes would become accessible in 2018 and an aditional 18 parishes are expected to be uploaded in 2019. As of today, records from 55 parishes have been uploaded. The following 32 parishes' records (as listed in the pdf file) are not accessible yet:

Abbehausen, Altenesch, Apen, Blexen, Burhave, Cleverns, Dedesdorf, Dötlingen, Eckwarden, Elsfleth, Esenshamm, Fedderwarden, Golzwarden, Hammelwarden, Hatten, Hohenkirchen, Holle, Huntlosen, Langwarden, Middoge, Neuenburg, Oldorf, Sandel, Schortens, Sillenstede, Stollhamm, Tettens, Tossens, Waddewarden, Wangerooge, Wardenburg, and Westrum.

In addition, the following 18 parishes from the post-1800 period and their records are not listed in the file (date of earliest records in brackets):

Bakum (1948), Bardewisch (1801), Brake (1859), Damme (1948), Dinklage (1946), Elisabethfehn (1880), Eversten (1901), Fladderlohausen (1827), Friesoythe (1935), Idafehn (1895), Löningen (1891), Neuenhuntorf (1801), Ofenerdiek (1901), Ohmstede (1901), Oldenburg Hofgemeinde (1879), Ovelgönne (1810), Voslapp (1948), Wulfenau (1851).

The "Oberkirchenrat" has allowed inspection for any records until 1930 (cf. here) so the records from Bakum, Damme, Dinklage, and Friesoythe will most likely be excluded from publication via Archion. Thus, the number is reduced to 13.

Since the announced number for 2018 is five parishes short of the published list, one is led to assume that all except five of them will be published in 2018. The remaining five will probably be uploaded at same time as the records from the 13 pre-1930s parishes that are not included in the pdf file.

Therefore, this is what the 100 parishes are (most likely) made up of:

82 parishes announced for 2018 +18 parishes announced for 2019 = 100 parishes

or:

87 parishes from the pdf file +18 younger parishes -5 parishes founded after 1930 = 100 parishes

Based on this resoning, the records of Hohenkirchen, Tettens, Waddewarden, and Middoge may or may not be uploaded in 2018, depending on whether they can be found among the 32 remainding parishes announced for 2018 or the five parishes' recors whose upload has likely been postponed to 2019. Nevertheless, I am rather confident that at least some of the parish records you are wanting to see will be uploaded before the end of the year. I hope this helps.

Best regards

Kokp18,

Thank you so much for your detailed information. I will continue to look for the Oldenburg parishes as you have indicated, this year and next. But at a researcher, the sooner the better! :D
