Hallo, ik hoop dat ik in het Engels kan schrijven. Ik kom uit Amsterdam en mijn voorouder komt uit Hessen, Duitsland. In de 18e eeuw verhuisde hij naar Amsterdam, de exacte datum is niet bekend. Hij is geboren in 1746, als dat klopt, want hij zei dat hij 20 jaar oud was toen hij in 1766 trouwde met een Duitse vrouw uit Wuppertal die in Amsterdam woonde. Zijn geboorteplaats stond in de kerkboeken vermeld als Nijkerk Hessen, maar archiefmedewerkers hebben dit vertaald naar Neukirchen Hessen. Er zijn nu drie Neukirchen in Hessen en ik weet niet welke het was. Hij had geprobeerd zijn handtekening in het kerkboek te zetten, maar er staat een beschrijving bij dat hij niet kon lezen of schrijven. Ik denk dat hij, ondanks zijn huwelijk, niet lang in Amsterdam heeft gewoond vanwege de Duitse vrouw met wie hij trouwde en de taal die ze spraken.
His name as he signed with was Jan Claess Reitt but look a like. Later he called himself Nicolaus Reijk and all firstborn in the family are called Nicolaas. Unfortunally i cannot read old German and the church books are unreadable for me. I be searching for more than 5 years for him. The search in Amsterdam did go smooth until i saw he was German and his parent where dead. Hope somebody can help
