Bebensee, Johan Heinrich

Hi all,
I am looking for info about my great grandfather Johan Heinrich Bebensee who was born on April 13th 1873 in North-Germany. He moved to Iceland and was succsessful as a tailor, had an Icelandic wife and children. Unfortunately he did not live to be an old man. I want to know if anyone can find info about his parents and if he had any siblings. Thanks in advance, best Sigrun

As an aside: Is Carl Wilhelm Bebensee the correct father of your Johann Heinrich Bebensee?
If so, the person linked in that familytree cannot be correct since someone born in 1850 and deceased in 1854 ..... can hardly father a boychild in 1873, right?

Please allow a question, since -as you certainly know- it is not possible to search the holdings of Archion automatically for names / family names:

Besides FamilySearch.... did you already use Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geneanet and the like in order to find him?

When I i.e. use the Meta Search by genealogy.net and search for "Bebensee" (without entering any place name) it provides at least a vague idea how widely that family name is spread all over "northern Germany"

By closely checking all available records / family papers / correspondance etc. etc. are there really no other information about him, this parents, any siblings, or any other possible relatives in Germany???

Hello Siggakalla,

The surname "Bebensee" is a rare one, which makes it possible to trace your great-grandfather, especially since you know his date of birth.

Most people bearing the name Bebensee lived in the Lensahn area of Ostholstein in northern Germany. I searched the records for Lensahn on Archion but could not find anyone named Johann Heinrich.

However, a few individual Bebensee families lived in other small villages in Holstein (I searched the AKVZ census records for those locations). There, I found a person named Johann Heinrich Bebensee and was able to locate your possible great-grandfather in the baptism register of the parish of Grube, Ostholstein, on Archion. I also found his confirmation record.
You may want to search for a marriage or death record for him in Grube. If you find one, he was probably not your great-grandfather.

However, he may well be your great-grandfather. If so, congratulations!
