Church Records of the Diocese Trier Go Online

Published on: 10. June 2025

A significant step for family research: The historical church records of the diocese Trier – the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Germany – will be available online starting mid-June.

Thanks to the cooperation with the diocesan archive Trier, the inventory on Archion is extended again by numerous church books from the west of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland. First of all, almost 2000 church records from 350 parishes with the initials A to K are made available online. They include baptism, marriage and death records from the 16th to the early 20th century.

The oldest book of this upload is from the parish St. Johannes der Täufer in Burgbrohl and starts as early as 1543. All in all, the first set of publications includes more than 450.000 digitized pages that will be made available online during the next few weeks.

In the next few months, the digitized offer of the diocesan archive Trier will gradually be further extended.

With this extension, the number of church records available on Archion from the west of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland is significantly increased.

Apart from the inventory of the diocesan archive Trier, it also includes the church records of the diocesan archive Speyer, the central archive of the Protestant church of Palatinate, the state archive Speyer, the Koblenz state archive and the archive of the Protestant church in Rhineland.

In this way, cross-community digital family research under one virtual roof is made possible.
