I'm from Brazil and I'm researching my family history for an application for German citizenship. I hope someone here can help me.
Wanted: Wilhelm (Guilherme) SEEMANN, born around 1835 (presumably in Germany), died on December 20, 1924 in Santo Amaro do Cubatão, Santa Catarina, Brazil, at the age of 89.
According to the Brazilian death register, his parents were: Philipp SEEMANN and Karoline SEEMANN, both "natural da Alemanha" (born in Germany).
His wife was Luise (Clara Luise) WEBER, born presumably also in Germany or shortly after emigration to Brazil.
The family likely settled in the "Colônia Santa Isabel" (Santa Catarina, Brazil) as part of the German colonization, probably between 1847 and 1850. Most colonists in this wave came from the Hunsrück region (Rhineland-Palatinate), particularly from the area around Löffelscheid – although this has not yet been confirmed for my family. A search in the APERTUS database (State Archives Koblenz) for "Seemann" in the period 1830-1865 unfortunately yielded no results.
The family was Lutheran (not Catholic - I was able to confirm this through their exclusion from Catholic baptismal registers in Brazil).
Does anyone know the best way to find this family's region/city of origin in Germany? I would be very grateful for any information on church records, emigration lists, or similar sources.
