Later Children of Leonard Matthes and Magdalena

I think the following are the references for children of Leonard and Magdalena Matthes. If you can confirm names and dates of birth I would be grateful. If you prefer 1 message per post I can resubmit separately. Further, is there any reference to the parents of Leonard Matthes - I can't yet fit him into the family. Many Thanks, Karen.

1) Johannes Mathaeus, 24th May 1697
2) Johann Leonhardt Melchior, 5th July 1700
3) Johannes Kilianus, 24th February 1703
4) Johann Leonhard, 19th September 1707

There is no hint that one of the godfathers is related to the family ...

Maybe a hint:

Conrad Matthes, son of Conrad Matthes, late citizen and farmer in Dörzbach, marries the widow Margaretha from Neustetten. 18th February 1691.

Conrad Matthes, son of Conrad Matthes, late citizen and farmer in Dörzbach, marries Magdalena, daughter of Hanß Kreß. 2nd(?) April 1692.

In the second marriage it is not mentioned that the groom was a widower. If Margaretha, wife of Conrad Matthes in the first marriage, didn't die between February 1691 and April 1692, it is unlikely that the groom in both marriages is the same person.

It could of course be, that the old Conrad Matthes had two sons named Conrad, however it doesn't happen very often, that 2 childs of the same parents with the same name are alive at the same time.

So maybe the priest noted the wrong name in the second marriage and it is the one between Leonhard and Magdalena? I saw you found the birth of a daughter Ruffina Barbara on 9th February 1693. That would fit to the 2nd marriage as well. Did you find any earlier childs?

That is indeed very interesting. I have found 7 children so far and Ruffina is indeed the eldest. I had also found the marriage to Magdalena and queried whether it could possibly read Leonhard, see post entitled Matthes Marriage Conrad? 1693. Your suggestion seems very likely. It would probably mean that 2 brothers (Conrad and Leonhard) were married in 1691/1692 with the father also a Conrad Matthes who died in 1675. I believe it says this for the marriage of Conrad but not Leonard?

2nd marriage:

... Con-
rad, wey[land] Conrad Matthesen hiesigen gewesenen
Bürgers u. Bauers Eh[elicher] Sohn, ...

Conrad, legitimate son of the late Conrad Matthes, having been a cititzen and farmer here ...

So yes, the father was dead at the time of the marriage.

If we are right, it means that the father Johann Conrad who died in 1675, was born between 1626 and 1635 - which also means I can't link them to my family, still they may have been linked further back! Also, when Magdalena dies in 1668, her husband is listed as Conrad Matthes. He may have been Conrad Leonhard of course - I don't think we will ever know for sure. Great detective work though, thanks!
