Thank you. A general question, which applies to this record (from my lack of knowledge of German language): Sometimes I see the surname written Lang, and sometimes I see it written Langen. Is the "Langen" a grammatical declension meaning "of the person named Lang" or is it a variant of the surname in nominative form? I hope my question makes sense,

It makes perfect sense.

It's a declension (Genitive case) of the family name, Lang.

In this case here it answers the question: whose son died.
It is the equivalent to "Lang's" as you are used to in English.
