Butzow and Tarnow area

Hello

i am trying to find records for my great great grandmother, Sophia Schumann, born around 1848. Her father was Johan Joachim Christoph Schumann. Her mother was Frederica (Rachel) Viechmann. They migrated to Australia in 1854.

I believe they were from Tarnow, but I cannot find any entries for these names in the Tarnow or Butzow directories. Some Schumanns and Viechmanns are listed, but I can't find any marrying each other, or any record of Sophia's baptism.

Are there any other parishes near Tarnow or Butzow that would be good to search?

Good evening.

Just to be certain since there are various places in Germany and elsewhere named Tarnow or Butzow [Bützow].....

Did you check these church registers?

....and

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I checked the church registers for both these towns. They are both located in Mecklenberg, Germany. Not sure if Rostock or Schewein would have been the larger population centre at the time. Will keep searching - it's so time consuming scanning all the old church books, but it seems this is the only option. Thanks.

I've stumbled across the baptism record for Sophia's father (my GGG grandfather) dated 1813 in Stavenhagen 🙂 So I'll look around that area to see what I can find.

There is also a small village Tarnow 14 km southeast of Stavenhagen - seems in better Relation to Stavenhagen than Bützow - and a village Butzow near city of Anklam, 60 km east of Stavenhagen

Johann Joachim Christoph Schumann, born 1813-10-04 baptized 1813-10-10 in Scharpzow (few km west of Stavenhagen), son of dayworker Johann Schumann (born 1782 Reckwitz =Röckwitz) and Magdalena Maria Jörß/Görschen (born 1781 Malchin). In census 1819 with parents and siblings since 1 year in Deven.
Illegitimate son with Sophia Wiechmann: Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Wiechmann, born 1851-12-05 in Ritzerow
