Birth Record Translation

OK, I understand. I'm just trying to understand how Martin Matthes knew Johann Albrecht von Eyb, and whether their relationship could help discover where Martin was born and/or who his father was. It seems strange to have someone so important to be the godfather for a Baker. Kind Regards, Karen.

Since 1601 the noble family von Eyb is owner of the castle in Dörzbach and they have been living there since then. Head of the family in 1680 was Albrecht Ludwig von Eyb, who was born 1639. In 1694 he became head of the Reichsritterschaft (Imperial Knighthood), district of Odenwald, and held that office until his death 1715.
His son Johann Albrecht was born 1669, so he was 11 years old when Johann Albrecht Matthes was baptized. He died in 1725.

Since Dörzbach was and still is a small village, I assume the Eyb family knew the local baker and eventually saw him from time to time. So taking over the godfatherhood might have been a try to strengthen the relationship to their local subjects. But this is just speculation.

Or, another speculation, the baker provided the castle with bread, and the Eyb family liked the good quality of the bread and they wanted to thank him by taking over the godfatherhood.

Thank you so much E and K. This is very interesting. One of Martin's descendants was a Baker to the Royal Court in Kupferzell so this is quite likely. We have 11 generations of Bakers in the family so they must have been quite good. Karen.

Hey that's amazing. I had wondered if Martin Matthes was an illegitimate son - I have no evidence for this - but that would mean we could be related!
