Also, Friedrich Wilhelm Gustav Stephan and his wife Elise Preusse met in an orphanage, according to one of his grandchildren.

Gustav’s grandchild told this to me recently, he also did t know that Gustav had siblings.

Where did you find the mother’s death? I have not seen that.

Orphanage records may identify additional family members and locations. Maybe this leads to a dead end.

That may well be. Did you see that @baukuthi questioned that „orphanage thing“?
Anyway be it as is, that is research necessary to be done in the U.S.
I find it hard to see any connection to Archion records.

Orphanage, if what I was recently told is accurate, would have been in Germany, probably Berlin. I’ve sent an email to Landesarchive Berlin asking for those records.

The Godparents are on my list of people to check. There are no Winkler (the mother) names on that list, but several Stephan’s to research.

Die Taufpaten müssen alle zusammenhängen, habe einiges ermitteln können. Aber durch fehlende Unterlagen aus dem Herkunftsgebiet Kr. Crossen bekommt man sie nicht verbunden.

Was soll das Landesarchiv zu irgend einem Waisenhaus ermitteln? Es gab da viele in Berlin.

Alle Forschungen mache ich im Portal Ancestry, da man hier auf Archion ja nur händisch suchen kann. Und dazu muß man wissen wo/in welchem Kirchenbuch. Das geht über Ancestry recht einfach. Ein Austausch darüber ist hier im Forum von ARCHION, in größerem Umfang aber nicht erwünscht.
Dafür gibt es andere Foren. Z. B. ahnenforschung.net, auch eine Facebook-Ahnengruppe für Brandenburg/Berlin gibt es.
