Hello! My German is not very good so I will write this in English, my apologies. My name is Edward Rumpeltin and I currently live in California USA, but I grew up in New Jersey very close to New York City.
I am researching my ancestors from Germany and I am hitting a wall when it comes to my Great Great Grandfather Hermann Rumpeltin. He was born in 1838 but I have seen different places of birth. Bavaria on some, Prussia on some, and Dassel in Lower Saxony on some.
I have not found any hard evidence on his birth and parents.
I am currently on Ancestrty.com but seem to be going in circles. Where else can I turn for help? I would really like to know more about my fathers side of the family.
My best guess on the details for Hermann are this: Born 1838 in either Prussia or Bavaria, Married to Wilhelmine Becker who was born in 1840. Her family seems to possibly be from the Westphalia area.
Through census data I have inferred that they had one child, Wilhelmine, before emigrating to the United States. She was born in 1862 and the first time I see Hermann in a US census is 1870, so they must have emigrated between 1862-1870.
Some of the possible connections I have made points to our family being from or near the Dassel area.
His other children Caroline Luisa , William , and Friedrich ( my great grandfather ) were born in New York.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
Ed
