Can anyone help with this surname? It is from Obermoos in Hesse. I know the groom's name on this 1694 marriage record is Hans Adam Meinhard/Meinhardt. And I know the bride's given name is Margarethe> But what is her surname? I can't even decide what letter it starts with (looks like a lower-case i to me!!). Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

Hi Donna,
Margretha´s surname appears to me to be Östreich, Östreichin being the female form. She´s from Zahmen, not far from Ober-Moos. However, the groom´s name is not Hans Adam but Hans Enders, which would be Andreas.

Thank you so very much. I would never have thought that was an "O"!!! :) I am only concerned now that this might be the wrong record as my guy is definitely an Adam not Anders. He is listed as Adam on his son Johannes' 1697 birth, on Johannes' 1723 marriage (in Gedern), and on his own 1719 death record. :(

There´s a death record for Hans Enders Meinhard, who died at Ober-Moos in 1704 - so I´m afraid he´s definitely not the one you were looking for. Did you find the Meinhard family in Gedern Familienbuch 1660 - 1733? Image 281, right page states the name of Hans Adams´s wife as Marg(retha) Tamerin, so her father´s name would probably have been Tamer.

Oh am I embarrassed!! I never thought to look for a family register record for him as he was born in Obermoos. And you are so right -- not only is he there (with the notation he was born in Obermoos), but he is the record right above his daughter (who I did find). :) (guess I better get better glasses!!) And he has a brother above him -- and since his brother was born in 1688, I will find nothing more in Obermoos -- this predates their records. So only the death records for Hans Adam and Margaretha. But now I know I don't need to look further. This was a huge help, to make sure I did it all correctly. Thank you so so much. I am most appreciative.
