I am sorry I do not speak German.

I am hoping for help in reading the death record for my 7th great-grandfather, Peter Grow. It is the top entry on the right page.

I am guessing the following: Born 20 JAN 1673. Father = Martin Grow. Mother = Magdalena. First wife = Anna Sybilla, married 15 years. Second wife = Margaretha Barbara, married in 1717 for 21 years.

Can someone help me fully translate this record? I appreciate any assistance.

d. 24. Mart starb Joh. Peter Graw, vieljähriger bürgerl: Einwohner allhier.
Nat. zu Zell, einem Filial von Michelstatt ao. 1673 d. 20 Jan. von Pat. Martin
Graw, gewesener Gemeins-Mann in Zell, u: mat. Magdalena, welche seine
Eltern ihms gestorben, ehe er sie gekannt. Copul. das 1te mal mit Anna
Sybilla, aus Wertheim gebürtig, mit welcher er in einer 15. jährig Ehe
2. Kinder erzeuget, wovon 1. allhier verheurathete tochter noch am Leben ist.
Das 2te mal mit gegenwärtig Wittwe Margaretha Barbara, von Rothenburg
an der Tauber gebürtig, mit welcher er in einer 21. jährig Ehe 6. Kinder
erzeuget, davon 2. Söhn u. 1. Tochter am Leben ist (cf. Ehebuch 1717.)
aetat. 65 Jahr.

his father was Martin Graw, deceased clerk of the municipality [?]
his mother Magdalena. His parents died before he got to know them.
Married for the 1st time to Anna Sybilla, born in Wertheim, with her he had 2 children in 15 years of marriage, of which 1 daughter is married here and still alive. The 2nd time married with the now widowed Margaretha Barbara, born in Rothenburg an der Tauber, with her he had 6 children in 21 years of marriage, of which 2 sons and 1 daughter are still alive (see marriage records 1717). He was 65 years old.

If I may ask further - -

Is Zell the actual name of a town in this case? I can find Zell and Michelstadt on a map of Germany, but both seem rather far from Neulussheim. I am not sure if I am looking at the correct towns. In any case, I don't see records on Archion for Zell or Michelstadt.

I WAS able to find his 1717 marriage record - thanks.

He was 65 years young!

"Gemeinsmann" is not a clerk of the municipality. It's not an occupation but describes his status as a proper member of the community who has certain rights.

This article in Grimm's German Dictionary gives "commoner" as an English equvalent of "Gemeinder", which in turn is a synonym of "Gemeindsmann" and "Gemeindemitglied".
So "commoner" may be an adequate translation.
