Church books from Forchheim

Hello all,

I am trying to find the Church books from Forchheim, Oberfranken.
LAELKB archive in Nuernberg replied:
"Die Kirchenbücher von Forchheim (Oberfranken) werden noch vor Ort im zuständigen Pfarramt verwahrt. Bitte wenden Sie sich deshalb nach dort (Kontakt vgl. http://www.forchheim-stjohannis.de/contact)"

Besides, I conatced Dekanat in Muggendorf and they replied the same.

But, St. Johannis parish repplied that they do not have these books and suggested to ask Dekanat Bamberg.
Christus Church parish from Forchheim also replied that they do not have such books.

While I am waiting for reply from Dekanat Bamberg - have anybody searched Forchheim records, and where the books are?

Regards
Michael

Hello Sven,

Thank you for replying. I have already asked at Standesamt and Archive of Forchheim. They sent me records that arelater 1875, but for earlier records suggested to look up at church archives. But church archives do not have these records.
Maybe somebody already researched Forchheim records before 1875 and know, where these books are?

Michael

Hi Mike,

to be precise: you are researching protestant families? Because, like Sven pointed out in his posting, most inhabitants of the Forchheim region are roman catholics.

Here
https://www.forchheim.de/content/katholische-kirche
is some information about the catholic churches in Forchheim.

It could help to post your question in the Franconian section of the forums of genealogy.net (http://list.genealogy.net/mm/listinfo/franken-l) - I learned there that in some regions protestant inhabitants used the catholic church in their town or village and so the protestant marriages etc. are recorded in the catholic church registers. And vice versa in predominantly protestant regions for catholic minorities. That could mean that protestant church records today are kept in a catholic archive - and vice versa.

Regards
Susanne
