1557 Loci Communes - Melanchthon Help

Greetings Friends ,

I'm so grateful that this form exists to try to obtain some answers about an amazing book I have in my possession. I hold an original copy of Melanchthon's Loci Communes from 1557. I have done research on Melanchthon and understand his place in history. I do have pages in the book that have handwritten names and I am on a quest to find out more about those individuals .

The book was found in the attic of my great grandparents house in Lake Park, Minnesota in the United States. Our family owned a small grocery store in town and his story in 1986 when the book was found was that a gentleman came into the store and offered the book in trade for groceries. That would have been in the early 1920's to early 30's (after World War I) .

The names in the book that I am attempting to research are Johannes Fugman, Johan Christoph Gebbardi (who I believe to have been a pastor in Berlstedt. I believe his son Johannes Christoph Gebhardi was a wine grower in the region and wrote in the book in 1725. The third name is the more difficult to figure out. There is a name on the title page of the book that appears to be the Superintendent of Streitburgen (Streigberg?) that I cant figure out . It appears to read “Ex dome Doctor’s Aurily Streitburgen Superintendent”.

How the book came to the US from Germany is such a fascinating story that I may never totally know or understand but I am on a quest to find out everything I can about the people who touched this amazing piece of history. Thanks to all who can help or have suggestions

I am struggling with how to upload photos that I have on my phone to the post as there isn’t a link to put in.

Dear Doug Karlberg-Erlien.

This is indeed a fascinating resource. Needless to say.

However, the Forum "Reading Aid" at Archion only provides reading aid for documents / records which are part of the holdings / offerings of Archion.
Thus no images can be uploaded to Archion and it will unfortunately also not be acceptable to publish links here at Archion to any third party platforms to which you may upload those images.

There are other forums in Germany, as well as in the US, who provide excellent reading aid for any kind of historic German script.

In order to mention only one of those in Germany:

Kind regards and sorry for no better news.
