Archive of the Lutheran-Protestant Church of Saxony

All historic church books of the Protestant-Lutheran Church of Saxony are recorded, microfilmed and subsequently digitized from the film by the Church Archive of Saxony. The backup filming of the church books kept until 1875 is being done in cooperation with the State Archive of Saxony. The original church books already filmed are usually located in the parishes, but their usage is no longer permitted. You will find information on these books either online with Archion or with the Landeskirchliches Archiv Dresden.

The area of the Protestant-Lutheran Church of Saxony covers the area of the former kingdom resp. of the former free state of Saxony, in the borders of 1945 without the area around the town of Bogatynia (now Polish). Today, the area of the Saxonian Church includes most of the federal state of Saxony, a smaller part of Thuringia and the community of Merzdorf in the federal state of Brandenburg.

Further church districts will follow, but the order is not yet fixed. Please note that in some cases not all historical church records within a church district are completely available online at once and there may be subsequent deliveries at a later date.
