Family Register as Research Accelerator

Another 700 Württemberg family registers are now available online. This Württemberg peculiarity summarizes the contents of the main registers (baptisms, funerals, marriages) since 1808 and gives quick information about three generations. Printed forms give the registers a clear structure and also allow not so experienced handwriting readers a good and quick introduction to source-based family research.

Family registers were listed extensively from 1808 onwards in addition to the main registers. The reason was an order of King Frederick I of Württemberg due to increasing state interest in the civil status. Starting point of the register are housemother and housefather. Their parents and offspring are listed. Initially alphabetically, the order became chronological later. So that persons could be found faster, alphabetical naming directories were created, which can be found at smaller towns at the end of a register band. For larger towns, these directories are often available as separate books, as so-called index volumes.

WHY IS ONLY ONE VOLUME ONLINE?

If you browse through Hildrizhausen, you will surely wonder why only the older and not the younger family register is available online.

This has a very simple reason in Hildrizhausen, as well as in many other towns in Württemberg. The most recent historical volumes often go so far into the present that the data in them is still subject to a protection period and the entire volumes cannot be shown.
